About Z.D. Lane

Z.D. Lane is the speculative fiction persona of Bill Friend, a writer who has always preferred the gray quiet of a rainy day to the glare of the spotlight.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, and currently writing from the humid foothills of South Carolina, he explores the darker, sharper edges of the imagination. His work blends psychological suspense with sci-fi elements, focusing on characters who find themselves stranded on the borders of history and reality.

He is currently finalizing several projects, including the thriller The Archivist’s Daughter, the fantasy Halloween’s End, and a science-fiction reimagining of the historical Relación, titled The Last Train Out.

When he isn’t untangling the knots of time travel or rewriting the past, he can be found cultivating a “Highland” state of mind, listening to the B-sides of 1966, or walking his dog, Whisky, while waiting for the weather to turn.

He writes quiet stories for loud minds.
